Carson Beck Has Brought Culture Back to The U

After a 4-0 start to the season, now beating 3 ranked (or former) ranked teams to start the season it is absolutely safe to say that culture is back at the University of Miami. Why now you may ask… what changed?

The Cam Ward Era

Cam Ward was an exceptional player at the University of Miami, but he lacked something that Beck has brought back to the gables. Before we mention that, let's take a look at his career with UM…

13 games played, 67.2% completion rate, 4313 yds, 39 TDs, INT, 331.8 yds a game.

Based off of these stats, clearly Cam Ward on paper was a better QB than most quarterbacks in college right now, not just Carson Beck. It's hard to argue that Ward wasn't good, because you would be a fool to argue that. He was selected by the Titans with the number 1 overall pick.

But something was off about UM’s football program, why?

The Canes were 10-3 last year and just missed the playoffs by essentially one game. Two completely failed games vs Georgia Tech and Syracuse last year cost the Canes a trip to the CFB Playoffs… surely a team with the number 1 QB was going to make the playoffs right? No, culture and discipline was lacking within the program.

In my opinion, there was a lot of “ME ME ME and IIII” not a lot of “WE WE WE”. They always say there's no I in the team, in this case I believe it. The 24,25 team looks a lot different than the 25,26 team. This year’s team is playing together, they are playing for each other for one common goal. Not the fact that they want to win and be the best out there, but the fact they are buying into the program.

Last year’s team just lacked energy and grit.

The Hype is Real

But with the Georgia transfer news in Carson Beck, something sparked in the UM locker room. Something clicked.

Hard Rock Casino stadium, 45 minutes away from campus has been packed throughout the whole game all year… something the team is not used to with fans leaving mid game to get back to campus. But something this year is keeping them around…

Not to mention, The U hosted ESPN college gameday last weekend… Among all College Gamedays, this episode hosted at the U was the second most watched in history. I myself attended the event and waited in line at 3:30am to be in the stands to support my Canes. That line was up to 700 people at 3:30am, mind you the gates didn’t “open” until 6:30am. THE HYPE IS REAL. Culture is back, fans and students alike are excited again about this team. They too are buying back in.

This team is being put on the map, currently ranked No. 2 while having knocked off 3 ranked teams so far, after taking care of business versus the formerly ranked Florida Gators. The league is on notice as the ‘Canes make a push for the No. 1 spot, playoffs, and eventually a national title.

Carson Beck’s Journey with UM

Carson Beck started brand new, after suffering an injury with Georgia he didn’t know if he’d ever play again. Eventually he realized he could play, but a change of scenery is what he longed for. He landed in Miami, and boy he has not looked back. The 6’4 quarterback has performed well this year, he currently leads all quarterbacks in completion percentage at 73.2%. He is less than 30 passing yards away from 1000 yards through 4 games, putting his pace to nearly 4000 on the year, in which his best year in the SEC he threw for 3941 yards and led the league in 2023.

This year has been a major step up for Beck, so far he’s only surrendered 3 INT, last year he racked up 12 and his completion percentage was nearly 10 percentage points under this year’s.

But to me, I believe his demeanor, leadership, and determination is the main reason the program this year is the best it has been in years. This team is a very grit filled and disciplined team. Offense, defense, special teams, and the coaching staff all are clicking in the same way. The team is a group of guys who after last year were written off by CFB, not to mention the one leading the way, Carson Beck was written off by CFB and their fans. But this team plays with such a chip on their shoulder, they are determined to prove everyone wrong. Through four games they are doing just that, they are ranked only behind the defending national champs, and they look to continue to tack on wins and eventually get in the CFB playoffs.

Also, just saying the national championship takes place at Hard Rock Stadium this year… in MIAMI.

Miami was so damn good… it was like a special place in time that is engrained in everybody’s head and the memories of some really dominant play with some arrogant moments… They were characters and are iconic in so many ways. We don’t want to go back, we want to go forward.

What’s to come:

Sat (Oct. 4) 7:30pm EST versus #8 Florida State

It will be an interesting game, as Miami travels up to Tallahassee in less than two weeks to take on FSU. Which if Miami holds on and wins this game they make a great case to move past Ohio State for the top spot.

My Prediction:

I believe the Hurricanes will edge out over FSU and take this game 24-17. Carson Beck will have a 250+ yard passing game with 2 Touchdowns. BOOK IT!

Miami holds the favorite (-4.5) | FSU (+4.5)

Miami (-182) | FSU (+150)

The O/U is set at 55.5 points at -110.

Where to watch:

Matchup: No. 2 Miami At No. 8 FSU

Date: Saturday, October 4, 2025

Time: 7:30pm EST

TV Network: ABC
