New York vs Atlanta United Rematch

Saturday, May 31, 2025, the New York Red Bulls (RBNY) versus Atlanta United (ATL) at the Sports Illustrated Arena in Harrison, New Jersey. The last time these teams played each other was March 8, 2025, and the match resulted in a draw. It was clear that both teams came back wanting to be the winner, but only one would be given the victory.

Kickoff was at 7:30, and three minutes into the game, C. Harper (RBNY) had already managed to find the back of the net. Twenty-six minutes later, K. Duncan (RBNY) received a yellow, but New York came back with a goal from E. Choupo Moting with assists from C. Harper and A. Hack in the 29th minute. M. Edwards for Atlanta received a yellow just mere moments later. Just seconds before the whistle blew for the first half, D. Edelman for New York also received a yellow card. ATL thought on their feet and subbed in B, Lennon, M. Klich, and N. Cobb.

At half-time, both teams had received yellows (2 for RBNY, 1 for ATL), and the score was 2:0 in favor of New York. While New York had beaten the expected goals (0.8) for this game, it was still possible for ATL to come back and score in the second half. Then, the live win probability was 92% for NYRB, 2% for ATL, and 6% for a draw. 

The second half started to calm; at the 60th minute, ATL subbed in J. Thiaré for M. Almirón. Yet just seconds after A. While both teams continuously made substitutions, ATL received their second yellow in the 78th minute, the second half appeared to be dragging on.  By the 89th minute, the probability was drastic, and it was clear that the New York Red Bulls were going to take another win this week. 

With 7 minutes added onto the second half, New York won their second match this week, 2:0. They maintained a 53.8% possession and 517 passes with 84.5% passing accuracy. In total, they received two offsides, 13 fouls, and three yellow cards. Atlanta United finished the game with 46.2% possession and 434 passes with 78.3% passing accuracy. They totaled two offsides, 11 fouls, and two yellow cards.
