Depth and Defense Fuel Fever’s 92–70 win over Chicago sky
Saturday night at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Indiana Fever delivered one of their most complete performances of the season, defeating the Chicago Sky 92–70 in front of a home crowd that never stopped roaring.
It was a night where adversity could have been the storyline. Indiana entered the game without several key players, including their primary point guard, forcing adjustments across the lineup. Instead of playing down the Fever leaned on experience, depth, and grit. The result was a convincing statement win.
Kelsey Mitchell once again took center stage. The veteran guard scored 26 points and dished out 8 assists, controlling the pace from start to finish. It marked her eighth game this season with at least 25 points, a testament to her consistency as one of the WNBA’s elite scorers.
Lexie Hull stepped into a larger role and shined, scoring 17 points on efficient shooting. She brought energy on both ends of the floor, knocking down key shots and locking in defensively. Sophie Cunningham added a spark off the bench with 16 points, including 10 in the first half that helped Indiana build a cushion they never gave up. Aliyah Boston rounded out the scoring leaders with 15 points, using her size and positioning to control the paint.
From the opening tip, Indiana dictated the game’s tempo. The Fever shot efficiently, moved the ball with purpose, and held down defensively, holding the Sky to just 70 points and forcing them into contested looks.
The Fever’s defense was impactful in the second half, limiting Chicago’s transition opportunities and owning the rebound category.
This win pushes Indiana to 18–14 on the season and reinforces their standing in the Eastern Conference playoff picture. More importantly, it showed the team’s resilience despite the amount of injuries. Without a traditional point guard, ball handling duties were spread across multiple players, and the team still managed 20 assists while committing minimal turnovers.
As the postseason draws closer, the Fever know the road will only get tougher. But performances like Saturday’s where depth, defense, and leadership come together suggest that they are more than capable of making a serious push into the end of this season.
